It’s already September! We are well into our 6th year of running the lounge now and have celebrated 251 adoptions to date. As of this writing we have 13 cats living at the lounge, 3 more scheduled to arrive, and 1 kitten in foster.
Some highlights from the year so far:
*We have had 32 adoptions since January 1st, including 8 pairs of either bonded cats or adopters who preferred a pair over just one cat.
*We have sponsored 2 mobile spay/neuter clinics in Oxnard, helping 55 cats get fixed for just $25 for their owners. Those two clinics cost us $4300 and it was money well spent to help with the overpopulation crisis of cats in Ventura County.
*We have been able to help our partners in rescue with $4000 in food and litter. This includes supporting our local trappers at Ventura County Feline Trap and Rescue with nearly $1500 in food and supplies.
*We have also been able to help reimburse medical expenses for trappers as well as rescue partners who send us cats to the tune of about $3600.
*We have helped one cat (Jazmine) with dental extractions due to stomatitis and one cat (Olive) with a diagnosed hole in her heart with an echocardiogram and a more complicated spay surgery due to her heart condition. We have also helped another cat (Eliza) overcome FIP.
The reason we can help cats beyond our four walls is that we have generous donors who love and care about cats. Whether the donation is $5 or $5000, it all helps us help more cats. If donations slow down, we focus on the cats in our immediate care. But when donations pick up, we are able to help even more cats. Our volunteers work hard every day to ensure the cats are as happy and healthy as possible while living in the lounge. They give their time and energy to the cause and we couldn’t do what we do without them. No one at Cassie’s receives any payment, including Jennifer. We are all volunteers who want to help cats!
Next week we will be changing our hours so that they are consistent across the days that we are open and also offer the cats and volunteers a midday break for resting, cleaning, errands, etc. The new hours will be 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (closed 1-2pm).
